This azurite is from the Mulungwishi Mine, Kambove District, Haut-Katanga, Democratic Republic of the Congo. This mine is one of several in the Kambove District operated for the recovery of copper ores. The primary ores are malachite and azurite. This piece consists of a thin matrix that is covered dozens of Prussian blue azurite crystals. The crystals are euhedral well defined. They have a vitreous luster and are larger than most found in the Congo. This piece measures 3 11/16 x 2 1/2 x 5/8 inches or 94 x 64 x 16 mm.
