This azurite is from the classic Chessy Copper Mines or Chessy les Mines, Chessy, Villefranche-sur-Saone, Rhone, Auvergne-Rhone-Alps, France. Mining at this location dates from the middle ages until 1875. The collection of mineral specimens is still active with azurite being one of the most sort after species. This specimen has a elongated mound-like shape with terminated crystals on all surfaces except the base which has a cleaved surface. The crystals have a rich blue color and a vitreous luster. There is minor malachite present. It is a small miniature or large thumbnail sized piece that measures approximately 26 x 24 x 21 mm.
