These atacamite crystals are from the Farola Mine in Cerro Pintado, Las Pintadas mining district, Tierra Amarilla, Copiago Province, Atacama, Chile. This mine contains 26 mineral species and is best known for the atacamite and brochantite specimens found there. Atacamite is a copper chloride that contains the elements Cu, O, H, and Cl. This specimen consists of a solid gossan matrix ( sawed on back side) that hosts radiating clusters of lustrous atacamite crystals and minor chrysocolla. It measures 2 3/4 x 1 7/8 x 1 3/8 inches or 70 x 47 x 35 mm.
