This atacamite is from the Mount Gunson District, Pernatty Lagoon, Stuart Shelf, South Australia, Australia. This area encompasses a large area that contains several deposits and ore bodies. Several mines and open pits are operated for the recovery copper and gold. The mines contain 40 different minerals including atacamite. It is a halide and it contains the elements Cu, Cl, O and H. This specimen is made up of several attached crystalline atacamite nodules with terminated and intact surfaces on all sides. The piece measures 3 3/8 x 1 3/4 x 1 1/8 inches or 85 x 45 x 28 mm.
