Description
This aquamarine crystal is from the Shigar Valley, Shigar District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Shigar is an immense district that contains hundreds of known pegmatites and dozens of active mines that are producing a variety of gemstone crystals including aquamarine beryl. Beryl is clear and colorless in it’s pure form however it can be found in a variety of colors from red to emerald depending on trace elements in the crystal lattice. It is a beryllium-rich silicate that contains the elements Be, Al, Si, and O. This is an aesthetic piece that consists of a corona-like feldspar crystal matrix that is penetrated by a double terminated aquamarine crystal. The crystal has a sharp well defined hexagonal habits and pristine terminations. It is transparent and gem-like with a glass luster. The top termination is over 1 inch across. This piece measures 2 1/4 x 1 5/16 x 1 1/4 inches or 57 x 33 x 32 mm.
