These aquamarine crystals are from the Shigar Valley, Shigar District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Shigar is an immense district that contains hundreds of known pegmatites and dozens of active mines that are producing a variety of gemstone crystals including aquamarine beryl. Beryl is clear and colorless in it’s pure form however it can be found in a variety of colors from red to emerald depending on trace elements in the crystal lattice. It is a beryllium-rich silicate that contains the elements Be, Al, Si, and O. This is an aesthetic piece that consists of a feldspar-quartz and mica matrix hosting three primary and several smaller aquamarine crystals. The crystals have sharp well defined hexagonal habits and pristine terminations. They are transparent with minimal flawing and their luster is glass like.
