Description

These aquamarine crystals are from the Shigar Valley, Shigar District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Shigar is an immense district that contains hundreds of known pegmatites and dozens of active mines that are producing a variety of gemstone crystals including aquamarine beryl. Beryl is clear and colorless in it’s pure form however it can be found in a variety of colors from red to emerald depending on trace elements in the crystal lattice. It is a beryllium-rich silicate that contains the elements Be, Al, Si, and O. This very aesthetic piece consists of a pegmatite matrix of quartz, mica and feldspar that hosts a complex cluster of double terminated aquamarine crystals. They are all intact and complete on all surfaces. The crystals have sharp well defined hexagonal habits and are transparent with varying amounts of veiling. Their luster is glass like. This piece measures 3 x 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches or 76 x 38 x 38 mm.
