Andradite – Naturally Iridescent Crystals from Dal’negorsk

These andradite garnet crystals are from Dal’negorsk in the Kavalerovo Mining District, Primorskiy Kray, Far Eastern Region, Russia. This region contains nine known deposits in which 190 minerals including andradite can be found. It is in the Garnet Group of minerals and it contains the elements Ca, Fe, Si, and O . This specimen consists of a plate-like formation (sheared on the back surface) made up of a thin layer and brownish green andradite crystals. They have a brilliant natural rainbow colored iridescence. This piece measures 2 x 1 13/16 x 11/16 inches or 50 x 44 x 20 mm.
