Description
This anatase is from Minas Gerais Brazil. This vast area contains hundreds of known pegmatites that are mined for a variety of mineral and gemstone specimens. Anatase is occasionally found as an accessory mineral but it is not common. It is a titanium oxide that contains the elements Ti and O. This specimen consists of a double sided jackstraw type cluster of lightly etched or re-crystallized quartz crystals that hosts a cluster of anatase crystals. The longest crystal is dipyramidal and measures 11 mm long. The crystals are mostly gun-metal blue with some translucency near the surface, One crystal has an elongated tabular habit. This piece measures 2 3/4 x 2 3/8 x 1 1/4 inches or 70 x 60 x 32 mm.
