This amethyst is from Piedras Parado in the Mun de Tatatlila, Veracruz, Mexico.This locale contains 6 different minerals including the world famous amethyst specimens found there. Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz which is a silicate containing the elements Si and O. In pure form quartz is colorless however it can be found in different colors that are caused by trace impurities in the crystal lattice. This is an exceptional piece consisting of a radiating star-like cluster of elongated crystals on a druse quartz matrix. The crystals are typical for the locale with translucent bases or centers and transparent phantom filled tops. This piece has excellent transparency and a rich violet color with pristine undamaged, dinged or bruised tips. It a small cabinet sized piece that measures 2 1/4 x 1 9/16 x 1 1/2 inches or 57 x 40 x 38 x mm.
