This crystal geode is from Artigas in the Artigas Department of Uruguay. This department contains a sixty two square mile area in which amethyst can be found. The crystals tend to be smaller and have a richer purple color than those from Brazil. This is a pocket-like geode measuring about 2 3/4 in depth. The matrix has been sawed on all sides to extract the crystal vug from the mother rock. There are hundreds of rich purple crystals flowing in waves and rosette-type formations. They are transparent to translucent and they have a bright glass luster. This piece measures 6 3/8 x 5 1/2 x 2 3/4 inches or 16.2 x 14 x 7 cm.
