This amethyst is from the Boekenhoutshoek Area, in the Mkobola, Nkangala District, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa. This area produces quartz and amethyst which is the purple variety of quartz. This is a cluster that consists of elongated primary crystals that have been covered with a second generation of amethyst crystals. The amethyst also has some included iron oxides which give the crystals yellow/red areas that are often labeled mistakenly as citrine. Unlike most pieces on the market these crystals and terminations are pristine and free from any dings or bruises. They measures 3 (tall) x 2 1/2 x 2 inches or 76 x 63 x 50 mm.
