This amethyst is from Piedras Parado in the Mun de Tatatlila, Veracruz, Mexico.This locale contains 6 different minerals including the world famous amethyst specimens found there. Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz which is a silicate containing the elements Si and O. In pure form quartz is colorless however it can be found in different colors that are caused by trace impurities in the crystal lattice. This specimen consists of a crystalline quartz matrix that is covered with druse quartz and epidote epidote crystals which in turn host elongated amethyst crystals. These crystals are typical for the location. They have translucent to transparent with lavender or milky bases or they are lavender with purple tops. This is an exceptional piece with pristine crystals and an aesthetic coverage. It measures 4 3/4 x 4 1/4 x 1 1/2 inches or 120 x 117 x 38 mm.
