This aegirine specimen is from Mt. Malosa in the Chiwa Alkaline Pegmatite Province, Zomba District of Malawi. The Mt Malosa locale encompasses a large area that contains 65 different minerals including aegirine. There are several diggings and mines in this area and the local population extract different mineral specimens for collectors. Aegirine is a silicate that contains the elements Na, Fe, Si and O. This specimen consists of sharp, well defined, aegirine and microline crystals. All the aegirine crystals are double terminated and do not have an apparent attachment point to the former matrix. This piece measures 2 3/16 x 1 1/4 x 5/8 inches or 56 x 32 x 16 mm.
