Actinolite – Vee-Twins from the Harwood Lake Roadcut

This actinolite is from the Highway 28 (Harwood Lake) roadcut in Raglan Township, Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada. Actinolite is in the Amphibole Group of minerals and it contains the elements Ca, Mg, Fe, Si, O and H. This specimen consists of a cluster of actinolite crystals that grew from a central axis to form complex vee-twinned habits. The crystals are opaque to translucent and have a vitreous luster.  There are some smaller, secondary, crystals present also It measures 1 x 7/8 x 1/2 inches 25 x 22 x 12.5 mm.
