This cluster of acanthite crystals is from the San Juan de Rayas Mine in Guanajuato, Mun. de Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Mexico. This area contains 82 different minerals including several silver minerals like acanthite. It is a sulfide that contains the elements Ag and S. This specimen consists of well defined, sharp, acanthite crystals. It is a floater type piece with with complete, intact, crystals on all sides and no apparent matrix present. It displays nicely from any side or angle. The crystals have a pseudo-cubic and pseudo-octahedral morphology. They have a silver-grey color, stair step crystal faces and a sub-metallic luster. This is a thumbnail sized piece and it measures 20 x 20 x 13 mm.
